Action Handling is a leading UK supplier of materials handling equipment, offering a wide range of products and services. They needed a custom ecommerce solution for DNN (DotNetNuke) to manage their extensive product catalog, customer interactions, and order processing.

The Challenge

Action Handling’s catalogue runs to more than 15,000 products, many of which are variants of a parent product in different sizes, capacities and finishes. The off-the-shelf ecommerce options for DNN could not model that master/child relationship cleanly, could not be kept up to date from their existing product data without hours of manual work, and did not give customers a fast enough way to find the exact part they needed. They needed a DotNetNuke ecommerce platform that fit their catalogue rather than the other way round.

The Solution

We extended Cart Viper — a commercial DNN ecommerce module — with custom C# / ASP.NET code and a bespoke DNN skin, rather than migrating away from DNN. This kept their existing content, membership and hosting in place while giving them the ecommerce behaviour they needed.

Tech stack: DNN (DotNetNuke), Cart Viper, C#, ASP.NET, SQL Server, JavaScript, and a custom responsive DNN skin.

Project Overview

Use Cart Viper as the ecommerce platform for DNN. Cart Viper is a powerful ecommerce solution that integrates seamlessly with DNN, providing a robust framework for managing products, orders, and customer interactions. We able to customise and extend Cart Viper to meet Action Handling’s specific needs, including:

• Modifications to support master and child products
• Custom product details to list all child products, such as different sizes and colours
• Predictive search to allow users to quickly find products
• Custom catalog pages to display products in a user-friendly manner specific to Action Handling’s needs
• Custom product import to easily allow us to manage the 15,000+ products in the catalog

SEO Tailoring

Working with LK Web, we have tailored the SEO aspects of the ecommerce platform to ensure that Action Handling’s products are easily discoverable by search engines. Cart Viper is easily customised using the build in template engine to allow us to create custom SEO tags for each product and category.
